Staff at Halfords in Rickmansworth reported a theft of a Power Pack worth
£100 by a female on Wednesday afternoon. The passing Community Support Officer
knew from the descriptions given that this was a female he had seen brake down
in her vehicle in the high street earlier and had abandoned her car.
When the female later returned her vehicle was searched and the power
pack was found in the boot. The female was arrested for theft and will be
attending court as she was already on bail for previous theft. CCTV evidence
from the store clearly showed the offender walking out with goods and failing
to pay.
The store had failed to report this at the time the offence occurred and it
was only while the officer was passing that they mentioned it.
Shops are reminded to report all suspicious incidents and crimes on 101. It
will cost as little as 15 pence for this call. Always remember to give a good
description of offenders and a direction of travel when they have left shops as
Police may be nearby and able to apprehend them.

What the Dickins?
In this bicentenary year of Charles Dickens' birth - the Dickins family in Rickmansworth have excelled themselves in their fabulous window display for the Ricky Week Celebrations. Karen Dickins admits that she and her family could not have done this without the help of some of their loyal customers. Ink wells, blotters and some ancient copies of Charles Dickens' novels all help to set the scene for this scholarly display.
On a less sober note... the family run shop is one of the oldest in Rickmansworth, and is almost a history lesson in itself with all the original fittings of the shop still in tact. They supply an extensive range of wines and spirits along with a rather scrumptious range of locally produced jams, preserves and pickles. And if you need a gift for a colleague or family member, Alison will happily gift wrap a basket full of goodies for you.

ATM Scam in Rickmansworth
An erlderly man has recently been targetted by an atm scam in Rickmansworth High Street. The man was tapped on the shoulder while he was using the external cashpoint at Nationwide and the man behind him pointed to two ten pound notes on the floor. while the elderly man picked these up his bank card was taken from the machine.
The male behind him watched him type in his pin number beforehand and used the card to withdraw money elsewhere.
Residents are reminded to always cover their pin number when using any cash machine to safeguard against this type of scam.
Go into a branch with an internal cash machine if you can, as devices to trap your bank card and cash are sometimes fitted to external atms.

Cadets are
training hard in preparation as they will be the focal point in a huge
procession of over 1,000 vessels as they crowd the Thames to honour the Queen’s
jubilee as part of a huge Thames pageant, the likes of which hasn’t been seen
since 1717.
Cadets aged
12-18 are part of a 55 strong team of Sea Cadet boats from all over the
country, each one carrying a flag to represent a commonwealth nation, sailing
in a diamond formation on an 11km route from Wandsworth to Greenwich.
The boats,
Trinity 500’s, were specially designed for Sea Cadets last year by Olympic
dinghy medallist Jo Richards and will be fitted with an outboard motor supplied
by Suzuki GB.
Captain Sea
Cadets, Capt Mark Windsor RN said, “This is a great honour for us, not least as
HM The Queen is our Patron, but it also offers our cadets an incredible
opportunity to take part in a once in a lifetime event, to be part of
history” .’
Commanding
Officer Graeme Cawsey said “This is so very exciting and a once in a lifetime
opportunity for our young Cadets, a truly memorable experience I’m sure they’ll
never forget. This is what being a Sea
Cadet is all about.”
Sea Cadets is
the UK’s largest maritime youth charity, working across the country in 400
towns with 14000 Sea Cadets aged between 10 and18. Cadets learn vital life skills like
leadership and team working via nautical adventure activities, and can earn
extra qualifications which help boost confidence and give young people a head
start in life. Visit: sea-cadets.org
