Images of China, India, South America and Europe were interwoven with pictures of the Three Rivers community last night at the official launch of Les Mead’s charity photography exhibition at Watersmeet (Tuesday 8 July).
The show will raise funds for the Three Rivers Museum and Watford Peace Hospice and marks the final project for last year’s Council Chairman, Les Mead, a semi-professional photographer and film maker. Les completed his term of office as Council Chairman on 17 June.
Chris Lloyd, the new Chairman of the Council formally launched the display in the Artistsmeet gallery with sponsors Trend & Thomas and Active Air.
Active Air’s Jeff Simon said:
“It’s a really impressive collection of Les’ term in office. Les has caught many special moments during his term as well as from his travels in other parts of the world.“
Les used photography extensively in his blog during his term as Council Chairman to publicise the work of community groups in the district. The blog received over 14,000 hits.
Belinda-Jane Hetherington from Trend & Thomas said:
“A photographic exhibition in honour of Les' Chairmanship could not be more fitting and perfectly honours the man and his accomplishments while giving us, the locals, a chance to see some terrific images along with beautiful snapshots of the things he got up to during his year.
“We were honoured to be involved as photography is so important to our industry but mostly because Les and the Council deserve our support for all their super efforts.”
The pictures in the exhibition were taken by Les Mead, Carol Mead, Sue Lacey and Victor Shack and are now on sale for a £50 donation each. Funds raised will be shared equally between the Three Rivers Museum and Watford Peace Hospice.
The exhibition is free and open during normal Watersmeet opening hours, Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm and runs until 29 August.
The material costs of the exhibition were funded by Active Air and Trend & Thomas and 100% of sales revenue will go to charity. The raffle prizes were donated by Hertsmere Leisure Trust, Watersmeet and District Council staff.
