Lessons in networking and confidence building for girls at St Clement Danes School

50 female students at St Clement Danes School enjoyed workshops in personal branding and confidence building this week, aimed at giving them the necessary skills to market themselves to potential employers.

The Employability Event was organised by national charity The Artemis Network, which offers UK-wide coaching, mentoring and networking opportunities for girls aged between 16 and 21.

“Your personal brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room,” explains Viv.  “By taking time to understand yourself better, and building your own personal brand, you can then influence how other people perceive you.  This can really help you to stand out from the crowd when job-hunting or developing your career.  ”

Covering topics such as the power of positive self-talk and the importance of confident body language, the lessons also helped female Year 12 students to identify their personal values and discover the factors that motivate them to succeed.

Christine Payne, CEIAG coordinator at the school, said:  “In this economic climate, where it’s very hard for young people to get a foot on the career ladder, any tool that can help our students to stand out from the competition is well worth exploring.  The workshops have provided a springboard that will help our girls present themselves in a professional light to potential employers, enabling them to create a strong positive impression as high-calibre individuals who would be an asset to any organisation.”

Viv added: “Our aim is to nurture strong, smart, focused young women who have a great sense of self.”

Other schools that would like to host a free workshop for their students should contact Nadia Osgood at The Artemis Network on 020 7739 9777.
