Businesses Beware - Online Directory Scam

Sent on behalf of Trading Standards

Hertfordshire Trading Standards have been advised by a number of local businesses of a business guide/directory type scam.
Expo-Guide is an online business directory based in Mexico, which appears to target businesses that exhibit at trade shows. They send a letter and a form to businesses requesting for them to complete and return the form confirming that their trading details are correct for the expo directory guide.
By reading the small print where you sign, you will see you are entering a three year contract and a sum of €1,271 Euros (approx £1,084.00) will be payable by your company each year.
This company are also linked to a ‘debt collection’ company, ICAA Cyprus Ltd, who ‘act’ on behalf of Expo Guide to chase businesses for these payments via letter, email and telephone, often threatening legal court action.
Should you receive one of these letters, we advise that you should not respond to them, and report the incident to Hertfordshire Trading Standards on 01707 292429 or email
tradingstandards@hertfordshire.gov.uk .
