MAPLE LODGE CONSERVATION SOCIETY
11th –12th May, Open: 11:00 a.m. – Last Admission: 4:00 p.m.
Open Weekend
Maple Lodge Nature Reserve
Maple Cross
Over the weekend of 11th and 12th May this private nature reserve will be open to the public. The reserve is one of Rickmansworth’s hidden secrets and is home to a rich variety of wildlife including waterfowl, woodland birds, bats and butterflies.
On both days guided tours of the reserve will be organised by members of the Maple Lodge Conservation Society. There are two lakes and many hides to be explored around the reserve, some of which have wheelchair access.
Light refreshments will be available all day and there will also be plants, second-hand books and handmade greeting cards on sale. Entry to the reserve and parking will be free of charge.
Keith Pursall, the Society’s Chairman says “For those who have not visited Maple Lodge before, this Open Weekend is an ideal opportunity for people to see the reserve. After being given a guided tour visitors can, if they like what they have seen, join the Society on the day of their visit.”
Maple Lodge Nature Reserve is owned by Thames Water who lease it to the members of Maple Lodge Conservation Society who work hard all year round to maintain the 40 acres of woodland, meadow and lakes. Membership of the Society is open to anyone with an interest in conservation and natural history.
